Process/Concept:
Trophy Mount- Chicken was inspired by the big-game taxidermy common amongst hunters; think buck, mounted on a wooden plaque over a crackling fire. While this style of taxidermy exists to commemorate a successful hunt, it also serves to eulogize the animal and celebrate its death. As the most factory-farmed animal in the United States, chickens die everyday, yet their death is seldom celebrated and rarely commemorated. Trophy Mount- Chicken is a eulogy, made in observation of the contemporary "hunt" that takes place in farms across the country.
From the Artist:
When choosing materials for my work, I am most interested in the perceived value of different media. As a metalsmith, I am obliged to be aware of the market value of precious metals. As an artist, I use specific materials to add perceived value to individual elements of my work. For instance, the animals I include in my work are often polished, gold-toned metal, signifying the inherent value of life. Craft mediums like metal and ceramic are also labor-intensive and time-consuming; they are representative of effort, and thus, value. The found-objects included in some of my work are sourced from second-hand shops or picked up off the ground. These previously discarded objects serve as counterpoints to the arduously hand-crafted elements.

Items purchased through our Craft Fair Exhibitors will have applied shipping rates set by the exhibitor and will vary. Allow 2 weeks for orders to ship.
Exhibition Shipping Rates are not calculated at checkout, but will be invoiced separately to reflect the exact shipping cost of the item.
*Please note that all online and in-person purchases of Exhibition work while the show is up will remain in the gallery until the show's end date. After the show's end date the work can be picked up or shipped to you.
Special Rate Items are items that are over-sized or not eligible for free shipping over $250. You total order will be charged a flat rate of $25 to ship. Special Rate Items will be noted as such in the item's description.

Sales Tax
Peters Valley is required to charge sales tax on purchases shipped to New Jersey.
Insurance
Insurance can be purchased separately through third-party company Route during checkout. Route provides protection for shipments that are lost, broken, or stolen. Route is added to your cart at checkout to enable protection by default, but can be removed if you chose to opt out of insuring your order. If you choose to opt out of the Route Insurance, and your package is lost, stolen or damaged, you will have to file a claim with the shipping carrier directly.
