Although the finished piece may appear complex, it demonstrates how a supportive creative environment, guided instruction, and a willingness to push beyond one’s current abilities can lead to outcomes that exceed expectations. This work was crafted using the copper foil technique. Each piece of glass is carefully chosen for its distinctive color and texture, then precisely cut and ground, wrapped in copper foil, and skillfully soldered together to form the final composition.

From the Artist:
The glass I choose for each piece is largely influenced by availability. When I sell my work at events, I’m often asked where I source my glass—usually a sign that the person asking also works with glass and understands how limited the options are in New York’s Capital District for purchasing supplies or learning the craft. I source materials by driving up to three hours to distributors, shopping online, and through generous connections with people who are passing along glass they no longer use. Access to sheet glass that may no longer be produced adds another distinctive layer to my one‑of‑a‑kind work.
Many people are hesitant to touch stained glass, having been taught that it is fragile—I grew up believing the same. Through working with the medium, however, I’ve learned that glass is often far more durable than people expect. Notre Dame Cathedral, for example, has stood for hundreds of years through extreme weather and even a devastating fire, yet its stained glass endures.
My goal is to help build a stained glass community in the Capital District: a space for creators to share the joy of breaking glass, working with hot metal, and creating together. I want to show that glass is not merely decorative or frivolous, but a vital and enduring material woven into our everyday lives.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0311/0859/5757/files/AmandaMoore_SimplicityofChallengeDetail1.jpg?v=1781640854
