Process/Concept:
This piece is not glazed, therefore home decor use only. It was brushed with ferric chloride; wrapped with horsehair and sprinkled with rock salt before being wrapped in aluminum foil and fired with combustibles in a retired lidded BBQ grill no longer used for food.
From the Artist:
I love how ceramics have been made and fired for thousands of years; how it can be accomplished in the very low or high tech of ways and how the human response to clay and fire evokes a primal urge for connection and survival. I enjoy pushing boundaries in my art making, and am always game to answer the question, "what if?" in my process even if on paper it sounds like a bad idea. I am always on the look out for discarded materials to use in my processes, and simple fast ways to get amazing results. My favorite combination is saggar firing in a Smokey Joe BBQ grill dragged from the curb, putting the ware in paper bags piling up in my recycling bin, with hay and shavings from my horse's stall. My biggest score of the year was finding piles of rock salt by the side of the road after the snow plow went by. Recycle reuse! I feel that in this process I am using simple items often discarded and over looked to create a durable good that can excite and inspire.

Items purchased through our Craft Fair Exhibitors will have applied shipping rates set by the exhibitor and will vary. Allow 2 weeks for orders to ship.
Exhibition Shipping Rates are not calculated at checkout, but will be invoiced separately to reflect the exact shipping cost of the item.
*Please note that all online and in-person purchases of Exhibition work while the show is up will remain in the gallery until the show's end date. After the show's end date the work can be picked up or shipped to you.
Special Rate Items are items that are over-sized or not eligible for free shipping over $250. You total order will be charged a flat rate of $25 to ship. Special Rate Items will be noted as such in the item's description.

Sales Tax
Peters Valley is required to charge sales tax on purchases shipped to New Jersey.
Insurance
Insurance can be purchased separately through third-party company Route during checkout. Route provides protection for shipments that are lost, broken, or stolen. Route is added to your cart at checkout to enable protection by default, but can be removed if you chose to opt out of insuring your order. If you choose to opt out of the Route Insurance, and your package is lost, stolen or damaged, you will have to file a claim with the shipping carrier directly.
