How do objects shape experiences and, in turn, how can actions imprint meaning on the material world? In looking to jewelry and domestic objects to explore universal and sometimes private subject matters, my work connects viewers and wearers alike to their personal and collective experiences. Drawing from unexpected and often ephemeral materials, my research explores impermanence and counterintuitive methodologies, while examining craft, materiality, and the body, to construct meaning from the material landscape.
I look back to a time when I was younger and travelling across the country for work—it feels like it was only yesterday... or maybe a lifetime ago. As with most touring musicians, I was a nomad of sorts, wandering from town to town, bags in hand, sleeping in strange beds, and relying on the hospitality of others. Postcards mailed home recount my experiences. I never did keep a journal. The worn shoe sole contained in this work serves as one of the only surviving physical traces of my travels during the final few years of my touring life.
The excessive wear not only embodies a passage of time, but it is also indicative of our blue-collar work ethic and how we made the road by walking. Tapping into the subconscious of this everyday artifact, this work harnesses the memory of the material and the history of this personal object. I believe there is value in the remnants of our everyday lives, as seemingly mundane as a worn rubber shoe sole may seem. Whether precious or not, I’m more interested in the narrative and creative potential of material. If you look closely, you might spot some crud hidden in the crevices and recesses of the rubber. That “crud” is important – embedded in the sole – a souvenir, probably from some distant land, surely from a time since passed. It is all part of my story.

Exhibition Shipping Rates are not calculated at checkout, but will be invoiced separately to reflect the exact shipping cost of the item.

Special Rate Items are items that are over-sized or not eligible for free shipping over $250. You total order will be charged a flat rate of $25 to ship. Special Rate Items will be noted as such in the item's description.

Sales Tax
Peters Valley is required to charge sales tax on purchases shipped to New Jersey.
Insurance
Insurance can be purchased separately through third-party company Route during checkout. Route provides protection for shipments that are lost, broken, or stolen. Route is added to your cart at checkout to enable protection by default, but can be removed if you chose to opt out of insuring your order. If you choose to opt out of the Route Insurance, and your package is lost, stolen or damaged, you will have to file a claim with the shipping carrier directly.
