Process/Concept:
This is a copper and silver bowl covered with a cloisonné vitreous enamel design. Vitreous enamel is a borosilicate glass material that can be fused to copper, silver or gold. Cloisonné refers to the fine silver lines seen throughout the colored glass. They are delicate wires bent into shapes and patterns which act as cellular divisions for the enamel. In this design there are dancing figures, skulls, insects and disembodies human parts filling the entire surface of the bowl in bright, psychedelic colors on a midnight blue background.

Cloisonné enameling is a slow process. A lot of preparatory work is undertaken to produce a design before the making begins and the making itself has many steps and needs a careful and precise hand to execute. Quick decisions and careless design is best avoided as mistakes are not easily fixed. This is something that draws me to the medium. Working slowly with an unforgiving material encourages thoughtfulness and resists overproduction. Before committing to a design choice, I must be sure that it will be worth the hours and days of work ahead. Samples must be made, the design must be compelling and my hands must be confident performers in the tasks ahead. It forces me to do everything I tell my students are vital parts of the creative process. When well-crafted, enameled objects can survive hundreds, even thousands of years, in spite of their delicacy.

Items purchased through our Craft Fair Exhibitors will have applied shipping rates set by the exhibitor and will vary. Allow 2 weeks for orders to ship.
Exhibition Shipping Rates are not calculated at checkout, but will be invoiced separately to reflect the exact shipping cost of the item.
*Please note that all online and in-person purchases of Exhibition work while the show is up will remain in the gallery until the show's end date. After the show's end date the work can be picked up or shipped to you.
Special Rate Items are items that are over-sized or not eligible for free shipping over $250. You total order will be charged a flat rate of $25 to ship. Special Rate Items will be noted as such in the item's description.

Sales Tax
Peters Valley is required to charge sales tax on purchases shipped to New Jersey.
Insurance
Insurance can be purchased separately through third-party company Route during checkout. Route provides protection for shipments that are lost, broken, or stolen. Route is added to your cart at checkout to enable protection by default, but can be removed if you chose to opt out of insuring your order. If you choose to opt out of the Route Insurance, and your package is lost, stolen or damaged, you will have to file a claim with the shipping carrier directly.
