Susan Bogen is a potter living in Northern New Jersey. She has been working in clay for over 40 years. After studying ceramics at the University of Wisconsin – Madison with professors Don Reitz and Bruce Breckenridge in the mid seventies, she started working as a studio potter in Northern Wisconsin and then in New Jersey. Susan makes wheel-thrown functional pots, working with Porcelain and Stoneware clays. All of her work is high-fired to cone 10 in either her gas reduction kiln or in her friend’s wood kiln up in the Catskills. In the interest of developing her brushwork, she studied first Japanese Sumei calligraphy and brushwork, and then Chinese water color.
Susan teaches ceramics at the Art School at the Old Church in Demarest, NJ and at the Sugar Maples Center for the Creative Arts in Maplecrest, NY.
Susan’s work is sold in various galleries and craft shops, including The Byrdcliff gallery shop in Woodstock, NY; the Peter’s Valley Craft shop in Layton, NJ; Gallery 23, Blairstown, NJ; Just Jersey in Morristown, NJ. She also attends a number of craft shows a year and regularly sells out of her studio in Montvale, NJ.
Her pottery is extremely functional and is meant to be used in day-to-day life. All work sold from the web-site is food-safe, dishwasher, microwave and oven-safe.
