"This Vase is an amalgamation of techniques and experiences that I have had over the course of my life. Techniques that have been taught and studied. Experiences that guide the lore."
I worked as an assistant to Bruce Dehnert in the summer of 2013. This was the summer before I started my last year as a Bachelor of Fine Arts Emphasis Ceramics at Southern Utah University.
Week in and week out we worked with talented Artists from around the country and some internationally. My good friend who was also assisting that summer, Ryan Schulz, and I had an opportunity to assist these Artists who visited to teach workshops. Each Artist would teach us their techniques and understanding of their work. It truly is the best environment to learn such a large amount of different skills in a short period of time. We also spent dinners, hikes, and stories with the visiting Artists and students that were taking the workshops. Cheers to Kulvinder and Bruce for their knowledge, hospitality, and sense of humor. The assistantship fueled my creativity for my final year at College. After that summer the ideas that were swimming in my head helped drive me to create my thesis. I had better knowledge of firing kilns, glaze chemistry, and the understanding of my work. After my graduation I went on to do a 2 year residency at The Morean Center for Clay in Saint Petersburg, Florida. I am currently working for MGA Sculpture Studio specializing in metal fabrication and most cast-able mediums such as bronze, fiberglass, cement and plaster, as well as a wide variety of plastics and epoxies.
