For over 33 years, I have been pulling red-hot clay objects covered with molten glaze out of my custom-made kiln and lovingly placing them in wood shavings and straw. The predictable result - fire...and lots of it. I have lost eyebrows and arm hair and collected a burn or two. But when I see the magical crackle patterns, iridescent jewel tones and eye-popping copper lusters of the finished work, it is worth it. Glorious raku ceramics rule, fire is awesome and hair grows back.
